Samsung Galaxy S10 launch: Everything Samsung announced at Unpacked event



IndiaToday.in : Samsung "unpacked" a wide range of products at its Galaxy Unpacked event on Wednesday, February 21. The products ranged from flagships smartphones to wearables and even a foldable smartphone. Most of these products had been leaked for many weeks, but on Wednesday we found out some key details about each of these products complete with pricing and availability.



Samsung Galaxy Fold

In order of appearance, we have the Galaxy Fold first. This is Samsung's first commercially-ready foldable smartphone, and the world's first to come with an Infinity Flex Display. The Galaxy Fold is Samsung's first step into the future of foldable smartphones, and it will launch in select markets starting April 26 at a price of $1,980 (approx Rs 1,40,000).

The Galaxy Fold offers a 7.3-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED main display, and a 4.6-inch HD+ Super AMOLED cover display. The large display is protected by a new polymer layer that allows the display to fold with ease and makes it durable at the same time. The Galaxy Fold folds up with the help of a new hinge design, allowing it to close up like a book with flatness to offer a compact form factor.

The Galaxy Fold runs on a 7nm processor that is paired with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. It gets a total of six cameras - three on the back, two on the inside and one on the cover. The device also holds two batteries that combine to make up a 4,380mAh capacity. The One UI software has been designed with features like App Continuity to seamlessly switch between screens, and the ability to run three apps simultaneously on the large display.

Samsung Galaxy S10 series


The Galaxy S10 lineup includes the a regular S10, S10+ and S10e. The first two come with all the premium trimmings that includes curved Infinity-O Dynamic AMOLED displays, in-display fingerprint sensors and triple rear cameras, among other things. The S10 offers a 6.1-inch display with a single selfie camera hole, while the S10+ offers a 6.4-inch display with a dual selfie camera hole.

The Galaxy S10e is a slightly more affordable version of the Galaxy S10, as it comes minus a few premium features such as the in-display fingerprint sensor and triple camera. All three phone do come with the latest Exynos 9820 chipset and wireless charging. The flagships also introduce reverse wireless charging and smarter Wi-Fi support.

Additionally, Samsung also announced a 5G version of the Galaxy S10 that will offer an even bigger 6.7-inch display, a quad-camera setup, dual selfie cameras and a massive 4,500mAh battery. The Galaxy S10 5G will get a Snapdragon 855 chipset that integrates a Qualcomm X50 5G modem to support 5G networks. The chipset will be paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage.

The Galaxy S10e is the cheapest of the lot with a price starting at $749 (approx Rs 53,000). The Galaxy S10 will retail at $899 (approx Rs 63,000), while the S10+ starts at $999 (approx Rs 70,000). Samsung did not reveal the price of the 5G Galaxy S10. The Galaxy S10 trio will go on sale starting March 6 in the US. The phones can be pre-ordered in India on Flipkart starting February 22.

Samsung Galaxy Buds
The Galaxy Buds are Samsung's latest attempt to take on Apple's AirPods. The earbuds are small, lightweight and hold a charge of about 5 hours worth of playback. The charging case also houses a battery to charge the buds a few times over. The case also supports wireless charging and can be placed on the back of the Galaxy S10 as the phone supports reverse wireless charging. The Galaxy Buds cost $130 and will start shipping from March 8.

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active and Galaxy Fit


Samsung also announced two new fitness wearables - the Galaxy Watch Active and Galaxy Fit. The former is a new smartwatch that offers circular display ditches the rotating bezel. Samsung's Wearable App offers a large collection of over 60,000 watch faces. The Gear Fit is a water resistant fitness band with a coloured AMOLED display. Both the devices can auto-detect exercising and come with sleep tracking and heart-rate monitor. The Galaxy Fit costs $99 and will go on sale in May, while the Galaxy Watch Active carries a price tag of $199 and will be available starting March 8.
